sacred: venerating our ancestors

Curated by April Mata, President and Founder of Black Artist Forward & Artist.

We welcome you, beloveds,  to spend time in this space in Memorium of those who came before us. Recognizing our ancestors, elders, and more who paved the way in the arts and beyond. "Because of them we can" is a sentiment often echoed in rooms, and in this room, we give our ancestors their flowers.

We invite you to partake in our ancestor altar by leaving a note, photo, or trinket that you feel fit in thanks for your loved ones passed. At the end of the exhibit we will gather and ceremonially give these items to our ancestors, and we welcome you to take any items you would like to take back with you before the exhibit closes if you'd prefer to keep the items yourself. We also welcome you to take a message in hopes that it may provide clarity and wisdom needed on your journey from your ancestors.

The curator would like to honor Alma Ramsey, Joseph Ramsey, Patricia Strong, Amin Alghani, Alma Day, Johnny Day, Richey Day, Chanee Goins.
