StacknSmoke by JaLisa Mccullough | Framed Canvas Print
Artist Statement or Bio
As a digital artist, I use bold imagery and cultural storytelling to reflect the layered truths of the Black experience. For this Juneteenth celebration, I chose to create a piece inspired by the film Sinners—a powerful narrative that explores faith, redemption, generational pain, and the ongoing fight for liberation.
Art Description
My work captures the emotional tension found within the film, mirrored against the broader historical weight of Juneteenth—a day that represents both emancipation and the ongoing journey toward true freedom. Through this digital artwork, I aim to honor the resilience of our ancestors while challenging viewers to confront the internal and external systems we still navigate today. This piece stands as a reminder: freedom is not just a date in history—it’s a continuous act of resistance, healing, and self-definition.
