Art Description
I want to share two short pieces. the first one "Joi is my Crown" is inspired by my friendships and how we relate. It serves as a reclamation and ownership of texture in hair, and the freedom I feel around them. Joi is the name of my longest standing friend, she does hair as a trade and she's encouraged me to continue loving my hair. My second piece "Reality Cheque" is more about my current sentiments about engaging in divisive dialogue. I particularly don't enjoy having to prove my worth and lucratively share my writing without the gnawing aversion to mediocrity, and ultimately to cop out for the material things-- to either distract or disengage with the subject of oppression and misogynoir. I'm under the impression that these poems are supplements to artistic works so hopefully I #understoodtheassignment
